Selecting
a suitable vine depends on its intended use, location, soil
adaptability and type of support. Vines with dense foliage
and rapid growth are extremely suitable for screening purposes.
Vines with fragrant flowers can be planted near windows, porches
and patios to add a wonderful aroma.
Tall
growing vines such as grape or wisteria are excellent for
use on a large arbor to give shade, while a vine for decorating
a mailbox support should be much smaller in ultimate size.
Deciduous vines will give shade in summertime, while allowing
light through in wintertime when they are bare.
