| The
wisteria vine is extremely versatile in its uses. It is one
of the most fragrant of the flowering vines. The flowers of
a wisteria vine grow in long clusters and come in many different
colors. The most common color for a wisteria vine bloom is violet
blue, yet white and pink are also seen often. |
A wisteria
vine is easy to grow, but the location must be chosen carefully.
Japanese wisteria vines require sunlight to bloom. Chinese wisteria
vines prefer sunlight, yet they will bloom in partial shade
as well. Sturdy support is needed for the wisteria vine as well,
as the clusters of flowers will get fairly heavy.
The Chinese wisteria vine is not as fragrant as the Japanese,
but the bloom is much more striking. The blooms actually appear
before the leaves emerge. There is also a second, less full
bloom in the fall. |
|
| A
wisteria vine will grow to between fifteen and thirty feet,
and spreads rapidly, needing little to no fertilizer. In fact,
fertilizer has been known to sometimes hinder growth. |
